#Powerof23# - Day 3- 23 Things I Have in Excess which I Don’t Need !!
Continuing with our @PowerOf23 series let’s introspect our life- Are we having too much of things and do we actually need it! Like it’s said “Too much availability can kill its importance”. We fail to appreciate when we have things in excess!!
So with this thought, let me start with list of things I have in excess and I don’t need it in excess to live a “Normal Happy Life”
1. “75 Books” - Wow! That too in addition to my Kindle!!! Why don’t I read ?
2. “50 Clothes” - OMG ! Why ?
3. “15 Handbags” - What’s wrong with me ?
4. “15 Lip Shades” - Really - I use only two shades!!
5. “12 Shoes” - Well to justify, they are in different colours/ shades and for different occasions - still 12!!!!
6. “11 Eyeliners” - Different colours I have when I use only black !
7. “11 Sarees” - I don’t wear Sarees except once or at the most twice a year !
8. “10 Perfumes” - Waste, when all time favourite remains “Flowers By Kenzo!”
9. “7 Watches “ - When I use only one !
10. Coffee Mugs - various shapes & sizes, gifted, purchased & hoarded!
11. Excessive Availability of Coffee - 5 Types/ Brands of Coffee - Agreed, I am a Coffee Addict, although every morning the first thing I have is Tea - yet I have all Brands like LeCafe, Bru, Nescafé, Beanies, Saffola Fittify, TGL Euphoria. Phew!!
12. Stationery - Enough pens, pencils and colours - watercolours, crayons, colour pencils etc to last for my son's remaining school years yet we continue to buy stationery !!
13. Various types of Sauces, Dips, Ketchups, Dressings, Mayonnaise - I am a foodie and I do try out different recipes and it seems the craving to hoard persist here too!
14. Crockery and Cutlery - Tea sets, dinner sets, soup bowls in various sizes, casseroles, plates in different colours and sizes, separate forks and knives sets, included in various sets, casseroles why when everyday I eat in steel plates ?
15. Medicines - Painkillers, Cough Syrups, Balms, Eye drops, Bandages, Vicks, Kailash Jeevan, Tablets - for various ailments if required - are we parallely running a chemist shop, I do wonder ?
16. Magazines - Old ones as old as 5 years - had carefully preserved to read when time permits and apparently I never had the time to read them!!
17. Recipe Books - Lots of them - why collect them everything is available online !
18. Old Diaries - Memories - why cling to past when it’s time to look towards the future !
Now the remaining 5 routines visits which I did every month and which I can do away with :-
1. Restaurants - Realisation that awesome and in fact junk healthy food can be prepared at home as well for hanging out with friends, they are welcome at my home
2. Movie Theatre - Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hotstar provide better entertainment as per my requirement clubbed with Popcorn and Ice Tea!
3. Mall Visit - Definitely to be avoided for 6 months as it will again result in hoarding clothes, shoes, hand bags and cosmetics
4. Beauty Parlour - Well I can take care of myself at home and with natural ingredients !!
5. Coffee Shops/ Ice Cream Shops - Yummy coffee and ice-cream will be at home now !
Lockdown made me realise about the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) I had unknowingly acquired - to excessively hoard things and this will definitely change going forward. Well, to conclude let me know what do you like to hoard ??
